Yep, this would seem to verify that it's a hardware, not a driver issue.

Is it true that the GT 120 supports open cl?

Yes. Nvidia's OCL implementation seems to be work in with their CUDA implementation (netkas can explain this better than I can, I got the info from his blog). In short: Any Nvidia card with CUDA support and official OS X support is good to go.
 
Then it is good that we can use it in MP3,1 and 4,1 as a basic card which also works without extra PCIe power. Perhaps I will run it together with a flashed 4870 if I need more power than the GT120 can give me.
 
just a quick thought

does opencl only tap into graphics processors? what about an external raid enclosure with oxford 936 speed chip(arm processor) connected via esata? basically does opencl tap into any processor attached to the mac?
