Hi all

Have several iPads where I need to trust a ssl certificate. Have installed the certificate but there is no option to manually trust the certificate as shown here

https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT204477

It isn’t showing anywhere to trust it. Why would this be ? We do not use an MDM solution or Apple Configurator.

Thanks all

hi

i think the important part in the link you attached is this statement:

quote
"Apple recommends deploying certificates via Apple Configurator or Mobile Device Management (MDM). Certificate payloads are automatically trusted for SSL when installed with Configurator, MDM, or as part of an MDM enrollment profile."
endquote

the key word being recommends.
i had never read the support document in the link you sent before.
i have never seen this kind of Certificate use being employed by any of the email services i have installed on my iPhone.

so, heretofore, the way you get newly set up email accounts to work for services that apple deems needing to have this Trust Cert for is (or at least has been for the past 4 or 5 years):
when you first set up the email account on yr phone, sometimes it won't fully complete setting up and gives you a message on yr screen about the Certificate. sorry cant remember exactly what it says.
but it gives you an option of 2 places to tap. one is Trust and the other one (going from memory) "Details".
you need to tap the Details option, and then click the Always Trust (or something like that).

the thing is: if i didn't do the above the very first time the above dialog appears, it never again shows up which means your email won't work.
so, what i have always needed to do before was to delete the email i tried to set up to get this dialog again.
