I'm trying to retrieve data from a Mbp that boots up with a black screen. I've been able to get it in target mode but when I try to access files it says I have no permissions to do so. I get the same block when I go into the tm backup files. I've tried going into get info on the folders to change security settings, copied to my desktop etc with no luck. Why can't I get into my data? Thanks much

Oops think I got this one resolved, thanks

I guess I thought I did in the explanation but it might have been a little obtuse. Right clicked then 'get info' on the folder in question. In the 'sharing and permissions' section in the bottom, I added myself then clicked into the settings icon (a cogwheel looking ish thing) to apply the changes to all downstream folders.

Of course that was in my admin persona and now I guess I have to copy it all into my user persona in order to get access to everything. But at least it's all there.
