No Place to Enter Password at Login

A friend of mine has a 13" MBA of the newest variety. Not sure if she updated to Yosemite or not. Upon startup, it shows her user account and the Guest account. But when you click on either, the password field does not appear. There is no place to enter her password.

Any suggestions? I already tried resetting the NVRAM. That didn't help.

Hi,

try booting from the Recovery HD (Cmd + r on chime), select Disk Utility, check the disk and repair the permissions, then reboot.

You might also try booting in safe mode (Shift on chime).

Well...I finally got to the Disk Utility. It appears her update to Yosemite was corrupted somehow. Disk Utility is unable to repair the disk and permissions. She has a genius bar appointment on Thursday. We'll see what they say.
