Hey guys, any of you group your playlists in folders in iTunes? I do, such as soundtracks, mixtapes etc. In previous ipods, you could only sync over each playlist but they won't be arranged into folder groups like in iTunes. The new nano and classic have this iTunes feature of playlist folder groupings, but the touch is inexplicably left out.

This really annoys me actually, since I have a lot of folders and it would be really nice to have them arranged in correct order on the ipod. Makes me think twice about my touch purchase and opt for the new nano instead.

Anyone have any workarounds for this?
Think they could bring this feature in a future update?
Does this piss anyone else off?

Seriously?! I was actually really looking forward to this on the new iPods, and my eventual new iPod Touch.

I don't think this or the calendar thing is a lunatic request...

To be honest, the reason apple did not include these basic features that are in iphone was to differentiate iphone and touch....to the consumer this may seem unfair but it is apples way of pushing more people to spring for iphones and att contracts.

Yeah but this is the opposite thing, where a feature available in iTunes and on the Nano and the Classic are not available on the Touch, or as far as I know, the iPhone.

Playlist folders on the classic and nano?? That's awesome. I've wanted this feature. Hmm… I don't think I'll return my touch for a classic though

I totally agree with you ioNic! Pisses me off bigtime, seeing as i too, have loads of playlist arranged in folders. How hard can it be to include this on the ipod touch!? There must be some way around it!

Despite this being a 2 year old thread, the request is still valid. I had no idea that you could do the folders on the Classic/Nano until after i got my Touch, man was I bummed.

SOOOO, send feedback please!

Agree completely, particular now there is a 64GB iPod touch, and 32GB iPhone. People will be adding more playlists, it's really poor that you can't organise them.

I started a thread a few weeks back for this (new to the Apple world and Ipods). I too find it ridiculous (I had prepared many playlists and folders for when the 64g was going to be out) and sent them feedback.

But you know what is ridiculous? The Remote app can actually show those folders on the Ipod Touch...why can't the regular music app do it? I totally don't understand this!!

Suprised this isn't a problem with more users

Ya I noticed the exact same thing about the remote app. It seems like it would be such a simple thing to incorporate but no... we get silly "cover flow" instead...

Just not fair

I think this is just not fair. The iPhone and iPod Touch has such good features and does not show the playlist folders. Apple, if you are looking, please provide a software update to get this feature.

I discussed the issue of folders with Apple earlier this year and was told that iPods would support folders. I bought an iPod nano at the time and this worked fine. I could store things in folders with playlists uinder each folder.

However, I recently bought an iPod touch and found that when I loaded from iTunes, the folders disappeared and all the playlists were in one flat folder. I called the Apple help desk and after about half an hour with on the phone with the technician suggesting different solutions, he finally consulted his superiors. I was eventually told that the iPod touch did not support playlist folders. So much for progress.

I agree. I am a music teacher and teach different classes from year to year, on different subjects. It's to have hierarchy of classes, subjects, etc. Then when I play them on my ipod, they're all jumbled up in alpha order. Very confusing.

I also agree. It was really nice on the Nano for it to display the songs in the playlist folders just like it was setup in iTunes. However, the Touch makes one huge playlist list very hard to manage. I put the iTunes playlist folder title at the beginning of each playlist name but that makes for a very poor way to manage the playlists. You lose a lot of the displayed title to the "playlist folder name".
I would really like to hear how others have handled this and if they know of any pending updates to the Touch/iPhone.

I hope everyone has seen this already, but iLounge has confirmed that iPhone OS 4.0 will support playlist folders for iPod touch and iPhone. It is a good day, indeed.

Nice! I just hope that it'll work on my 2g Touch.

If so then the only other thing I'm looking for is the Podcast scrolling to be smoothed out (some weird 3.0 thing). Hm. And maybe a better implementation of Album Artist (but that's another topic altogether).
