Why the heck they made a screen with a notch ?

One of the main reasons I am skipping the iPhones because apple refuse to remove the notch completely, Its a sore to the eyes and ugly.

What's your opinion ?

For me, I won't buy any MBP until they completely remove the notch (and without a punch hole, of course).

It's a relief that I have 2018 MBP that can run Mojava, I hope it stays fine until then.

okay, this thread is as good as any other… can I ask the OP (and people sharing his opinion) three things… seriously?

1. Is there any solution on any hardware out there existing now which you truly prefer (which)?

2. if “yes”, why?

3. what is your usage for a laptop that makes the unavailability of the pixel area - within the menu bar - covered by the notch (on a screen with quite a lot of pixels) unacceptable?

Please?

Notch with a bigger screen is always better than smaller screen as you can anyway just use the portion below the notch if you wish. I have Samsung S20+ with a notch and I don't see it anymore. Really, you will get used to it and appreciate the extra pixels around it. Notch means more real estate on the screen. Devs will adapt the apps to make the notch disappear.

Next step forward: a smaller notch.

OP would you rather have (1) a notch and small bezels, or (2) no notch and larger bezels? No tech exists for the third option you seem to desire, which is no notch and small bezels.

Where else are you going to place a front facing camera? Stop complaining to complain. I don't even notice the "notch" on my iPhone. It's only noticable if you want to notice it. After a while, it's not even a thing.

i think other companies are doing quite well in that regard. check the xps lineup from dell: high screen-to-body ration plus ir-camera for windows hello-unlocking.

btw. does the mbpro's notch even support faceid?

I hate notches and punch hole camera. I prefer it be thicker than have that. This is definitely an no buy. Also the notch would be annoying if you try to watch 4:3 video.

Fishrrman prediction:
If you won't buy one "with the notch", then you won't be buying another MacBook Pro for quite a long time...

It's fine for me, As I said before I never bought any iPhone that have a notch.
I don't think apple will keep the notch for a long time, they may remove it or make it smaller that the user won't bother about it.

I hate Face ID. It has Touch ID which is 100% better.
this is not about what you like; i'm saying: the iphone's notch has its right to exist, because it's still the best method to unlock your phone and authenticate purchases with apple pay.

the new mbpro's notch .. only houses a webcam, which could've been easily been put behind a non-intrusive black bezel. like many other laptop manufacturers have done, while also boasting almost or even higher than 90% screen-to-body ratio.

For me it's distracting. I understand that this is just aesthetics or personal preference but it's such a bother that I have to just accept that I might have some kind of OCD that the designers at Apple don't have.

Practically, I am imagining that I will not be 100% satisfied with Apple solution to dealing with the notch, and I don't want the notch appearing and disappearing throughout my workflow. I would likely have to turn to third party mods that make it more janky just to try and establish a useable interface.

I'm a VFX artist and so zooming in and having some pixels covered is not acceptable so I would need the whole horizontal line turned off in order to do my job. In short, it creates a software problem that must be fixed with all new apps and software, but I'm reliant on software that is not always kept up to date at Apples pace.

I also think Apples implementation on iPhone sucks. The only way to "hide" the notch is to jailbreak, and the arrangement of icons on the iPhone 12 Mini was truly awful. It was like no effort went into scaling for that phone.

It's a non issue. It would have been bezel otherwise, and you'd have less screen.

If you want to talk real complaints about design decisions with this laptop, why does it *look* so chunky and thick? I know that it actually isn't, but the previous designs did a great job making things look thinner. Now they just look thick and gross.
