I can not believe the iPhone X costs what it does, but then doesn't include premium features like ProMotion.
It's one of the reasons I didn't appeal to me, since they will probably add it next year...

Personally, I do not care about True Tone on the display, but ProMotion needed to be in there.

This is on a device that they want to be an example of "the future"!

Just as others have stated, 120hz OLED was likely either impossible or very expensive to include this year. LCD likely could have done it but then they would have the iPhone 8 and 8 plus with a "better" screen then the iPhone X which was not going to happen. Next year is likely the year that 120hz mobile displays start to take off. This year was all screen phones and next year will be high refresh rate displays.

Does anyone actually know what it is? Is it possible that oled screens have a higher refresh rate so promotion wasn’t necessary?

Once you experience the 120HZ Promotion on the iPad, it really is fairly noticeable. Everything moves at a much smoother rate and once you go back trying to use 60 HZ, Everything seems slower.

Samsung's OLEDs typically have a refresh rate around 60hz. The only high refresh rate OLEDs that I know of are in VR headsets. They have a refresh rate of 90hz I believe.

I don't think they are ready to mass produce OLED + ProMotion. We can all complain about not having this feature or that feature, but it comes down to the ability to mass produce the product. In this case, we aren't there yet.

They need to have something to add in a future version of X
I bet ProMotion will be on iPhone by 2019, maybe even next year
