The "Put Back" option is only available in certain circumstances. For example, if I put a file into the Trash via the Dock, the "Put Back" option is not available. If I open a Finder window and put a file from that window in the Trash, it is.

I havent tried "Put Back" in Snow Leopard yet, but if that's true how sad. It's not a hard feature to implement, and how can they screw it up when they've had it in the past. It was in OS 9 and I assume it was there before that too.
How would you know that? It means keeping track of where the file was before it was put in the Trash. Is there a standard method for doing that in Mac OS X?
In 10.6.2, 'put back' works as advertised, if you delete something, it doesn't matter how, just open the trash, right click the deleted file and select 'put back'.
