So I have RCS working with most android contacts but the one I want to work the most, of course, does not. My wife's s21 has RCS enabled but we don't have RCS features working between us. Does anyone have any ideas what to check? She had said there was some sort of statement about lack of encryption for me within her messaging settings. Unfortunately I don't have her phone with me but if anyone can give me some ideas of what to check later, that would be great. Thanks!

Ah poop. Probably samsung I assume. Wasn't aware it would only work on google messages. Thanks for the reply.

Ok so it is google messages. Under the details of my info in her messages app it says “end to end encryption off. End to end encryption isn't available for this conversation”. And a link to rcs chat which has been no help.
Anyone have any ideas? We've done reboots etc. Disconnected from rcs and reconnect etc.

That is correct behavior seeing as Apple does not support the proprietary e2ee Google has added to their App.

E2EE for RCS currently only works when both parties are using Google Messages.

Ok so I don't understand then. What does Imessage "supporting" RCS now actually mean then if you don't get RCS? The first poster that replied said it works only with google messages not samsung messages, but you guys are saying it is normal behavior to not work with google messages as well. So what does it work with? Imessage supports RCS now, but only if I download and use google messages? I'm not trying to be combating or argumentative, I'm just quite confused here and normally I'm pretty tech smart.

Firstly, iMessage doesn’t support RCS. iMessage is a messaging protocol.

The Apple Messages app supports RCS in iOS 18, but RCS is dependent on your network supporting it. This is why RCS is a poor substitute for iMessage, WhatsApp, signal, or any other number of OTT messaging services already available.

The biggest thing is whether your carrier supports it. Are the contacts that it works for contacting you on the same line?

I'm out of ideas other than contacting your carrier. It sounds like the Samsung phone is having trouble detecting you as an RCS user.

Our carrier does support RCS. BELL in Canada, and it has supported RCS when I was using android and currently as well. We are both on Bell but separate lines and we used to have RCS working between us when we both had android. The contacts that it works for are on different lines and carriers.
Thanks for the help with this, even if we don't get it sorted.

That doesn’t sound right. I have no problem using RCS between my iPhone and a Samsung S22 using the Google Messages app.

OP doesn’t care about E2EE, he just wants RCS to work between an iPhone and a Galaxy S21. Right now it’s not working at all.

Unfortunately it seems people have confused the issue by bringing in details that really aren’t relevant.

I haven’t changed any settings on either the iPhone or the Samsung, both are at default and it just works so I’m not sure where the OP goes from here, perhaps signing out and back on the Samsung to see if that helps.

Yeah, it will not work with brands (Xiaomi, Vivo, Oppo, etc.)' default Messaging apps right now(tried with my Xiaomi phone), what a bummer.
