Hi,

I know that there is a digital out on my late 08 macbook pro - and I know that there is a red diode in there. But I've only seen it when I tried running vista once.

Is there a problem? There is no red light at all when running OS X or windows xp.

Without a optical cable plugged in the light should not be on. So the problem is with vista, not OS X or XP.

If it's there for one OS and not the other, it's because one OS has been set up to use the Digital Out audio device and the other is using the Analog Out. Use the appropriate manager (System Preferences or Control Panel) to fix the discrepancy.
