I am trying to get an account on GameRanger for multiplayer play in Star Wars Battlefront.

They haven't sent me a confirmation email to validate my account, thus I can't go any further (meaning I cant logon to MP mode)

I sent requests yesterday afternoon. I tried with 2 separate email addys.

Anyway ideas?

Thanks.

Patience?

It'snot GameSpy with a big employee base so maybe it"ll take~24hrs for an account setup. I didnt realize this game segregated mac players from windows players. I thought SWBF players all talked on the same protocol.

heh - yeah patience is not always my strong point! I thought it would be an automated enrollment.

As for it being Mac only - I really don't know anything about that - it was jsut what the game recommended that I use. I didn't mean to imply that it was a game specific server.

Should I try Gamespy for SWBF?

Did you just try browsing for multiplayer games withint SWBF? Gamespy and Gameranger (if the Mac version is similar to the windows versions of similar software) would be external apps that would start the game via command line to connect you to the multiplayer game.

There should be a browser (dang, now you got me wanting to install) inside that will show a list inside the game itself with all the multiplayer games SWBF finds. Although considering the age of the game there might not be a lot. But see if there is a built in browser to look at available multiplayer games. If there is and you can connect I see no need for a 3rd party app to show you a list of games.

Star Wars Battlefront™
Platforms: Mac
Multiplayer Requirements:
Mac to Mac Internet play via GameRanger
Mac to PC play on LAN or Direct IP only

This is why I don't like these games. Further seperates the computer users. Granted there are 3rd party proxy servers and they aren't that bad but the days of using Kali to find warcraft games is over. IP's should be IP's. This style is not Apples fault but the way the game servers were architected. Rather than generic most were assumed all connected peers would be windows based.

Bah, sorry dude, gotta wait for GR to send email.

No problem - I appreciate all the comments on the topic.

I learned a little today.

BTW I also play another oldie Red Faction. Most players on that are PC as well. Only a few others I know that are Mac users.

It's a great FPS with Deathmatches and CTF's... but it's sying out a little bit as well. Still I would recommend for those who like to level build and a small community setting.

Anwyay, I'll post back when I hear something. I was making sure this wasn't a dead end road.

Red Faction, now that brings back good times!

I actually wanna try to get some of the guys at work to play Doom during lunch to bring back old memories. DOOM! original, not this other stuff, piss poor graphics by todays standards but damn fun and addicting back in the day.

Just a quick update... For those that care - or that might be curious. I'm on the 3rd day with no response from Gameranger. Is this normal?

I would say no not normal. I would have expected a response within 24hrs. I don't have a GameRanger account but with any company that just doesn't seem normal.

Try direct emailing their support or just go with GameSpy (if they have a Mac port I'm unsure since I don't use GameSpy)

Sorry to hear your still having issues.

Argh!

Well here we are many days later and STILL.... no reply. I even applied using 2 different email accounts.

Has ANYONE applied for an account and received a email replay from them in the last week?

Ugh.

Well, I have a gold account and was quiet fast to make it. be sure to download the latest Game Ranger App and make the updates.

I assume you checked your junk mail folder or any places a spam filter might filter out an email.

Ohh, damn. Didn't even think about mentioning that. I know I've missed some emails, even from customers at work because spam filter moved them to junk mail.

You said you used 2 different email accounts... are they from the same domain?

Try making a free email account with hotmail or something and see if that will work.
For example, if example@aol.com isn't working, then example2@aol.com might not work either. example@hotmail.com, on the other hand, might.

That's probably not the issue, but it's worth a try.

Thanks for the ideas and comments. As of this morning - still nothing.

Yeah, I kept an eye on junk mailbox.

And yes, they are both from Gmail - I'll try a Yahoo later tonight.

If you are insinuating that I pay up front for a Gold account - pfft! No way! After this shining example of service - You think I know want to pay? You must be smokin it! :)

I'll post back soon about results of new (3rd) email application.

This is the most recent Gameranger download.

edit:
Ok - I just applied with a yahoo.com account - Let's hope!

Can anyone who has an existing Gameranger account test & see if it's working? It's one thing if they don't get back to a new-account request, quite another if the larger service is having issues.

Ok - I'm good. They got back to me on the yahoo account. I guess Google's minions are busy deleting email....nice

To quote Google: "Do no Evil"... yeah, right. Ok, deleting valid email may not be evil, per se - but I certainly wouldn't classify it as "good".

Anyway, thanks to all who've offered advice.

Cyas on the fraggin' fields, suckas!

;-)
