I'm sending Kingston SV300 for "reworking" for the second time, since my mbp5,2 negotiates only 1.5G speed with it.
At the same time HGST hdd in ODD's place negotiates 3G just fine.
Kingston's "rework" means that they lock sata speed to 3G, so maybe it locks 6G out, but not the slower version?
Was Apple's EFI update 1.8 about enabling SSD's to 3G just like EFI update 1.7 were for Mid 2009's?

Just got it working with 3Gb speed.
The ssd was in UK for first round and it didn't change anything.
Second round they gave me 120GB (ouch, forgot to tell that the original was 60GB) version and it works!
Don't know if they messed up something in the first round or is that early2009mbp17" (AMD chipset) doesn't work with 60GB version, but works with 120GB version...
Long road, but great support from Kingston!
