I did a search but couldn't come up with much helpful or consistent information.

I bought a new M4 Max Mac Studio. Since my workplace is paying for it, I also got a USB-C Magic Keyboard and Magic Trackpad. Since the keyboard and trackpad were delivered right away (while the Mac Studio should be shipping any day now), I decided to plug them into my current Mac to make sure they were working properly.

I've noticed that "Silent Click" or "Quiet Click" (I've seen it listed both ways) is not an option in the trackpad system settings when the USB-C trackpad is connected. Is is, however, available when my old Lightning Magic Trackpad is connected to the same machine.

Has this option been removed from the new USB-C trackpads? Or do I just have a weird bug happening?

OK, to add to the weirdness (which makes me think I'm just experiencing a weird software bug), if I disconnect the USB-C trackpad, connect my Lightning trackpad, turn ON the silent click option, then switch back to the USB-C trackpad, the clicks on the USB-C one do in fact become quieter (even though the option is still not displayed in the control panel). This is strange. I might delete all the Bluetooth pairings of old Apple keyboards and trackpads and reboot the machine to see what happens.

Removing all my other Apple keyboard/mouse/trackpad bluetooth device pairings and rebooting didn't help. Still doesn't show the option for silent click when just the USB-C Magic Trackpad (and USB-C extended keyboard) is connected, though the setting from above remains active (i.e., the trackpad is quiet clicking). Perhaps it's something weird since it's connected to my MacBook Pro M3 Max.

I'll retest in a few days when my Studio arrives and see what it does then.

Fortunately it's a very minor bug. The trackpad does seem to be on the latest firmware (3.1.4).

So just in case anyone is interested (or cares, lol), the quiet click is correctly displayed on my new Mac Studio with the USB-C Magic Trackpad. Not sure why it wasn't on my MBP, but whatevs.

Posts on Apple support have a few threads on this issue for device firmware 3.1.4 that impacts mice, trackpads, and keyboards. These newer usb-c devices with that firmware version require macOS 15.1+ If you look on the Apple web site you will see they have changed the OS requirements. "System Requirements: Mac with macOS 15.1 or later" so this seems intentional that they changed the device identifier so older OS versions won't recognize these devices properly.
