From what I've gathered speaking to Apple support, there will be no SIM-free option: you have to sign up on a carrier plan. Is this the correct information?
 
Are there any carriers where I can sign up for an account with a plan just to buy the phone (and not have to pay the carrier a dime)? Just trying to buy it unlocked, contract-free to add to a Verizon line.
