No sound after wake-up

Hi guys.

What can it be when I have no sound after waking-up my iMac (21,5'' mid-2011 base model) ?

I can change volume settings with F11-F12 buttons but there is no sound at all.

I can restore sound by put to sleep my iMac with POWER button and wake it up again.

What can I do about it ?

Plug in headphones and then unplug them.

Reset the SMC.

I dont have headphones.

What is SMC and how can I reset it?

Get some headphones or external computer speakers.

If you google "iMac smc reset", it's the first result that comes up.

Used to happen to my MB a ton when Snow Leopard first came out
