Alright... I've dealt with this problem for almost a year now, and I've simply put up with it... but its really starting to get aggravating, sooooo I need to fix it.
Early 2009 Mac Pro 2.66 Quad, 3GB 1066 DDR3
OS X 10.6.4 64 bit boot
Boot Camp - Windows 7 Home 64 bit
ATI Radeon HD 5870 Sapphire Vapor-X (flashed - no EFI boot) via HDMI
NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 (no connected displays)
Problem occurs only when I restart from Win7 to OSX - I get no sound in OSX. Previously, I used the 5870 via HDMI for Win7, and the GT120 via DVI for OSX - had the same problem. I use external speakers via headphone jack on the back of the Mac Pro. Under the sound control panel, NO sound output is detected. There is nothing in the list of sound outputs. If I restart from OSX to OSX, sound works perfectly fine - all 3 outputs detected (internal speakers, line out, digital out).
A recent development has been that I am also unable to soft shut down/restart in OSX after restarting from Win7. The Finder and other apps will close for shutdown, but the dock remains, and the computer never shuts down/restarts. I'm just staring at a blank desktop (no
menubar). After hard restart/shutdown (via holding the power button), OSX will shut down properly, along with the sound being back.
I assume this has something to do with the non-Apple/EFI 5870, so this might be impossible to troubleshoot... (at least until/if an EFI frankenstein rom is ever created) but I thought I'd try my luck and see if I could find some genius to help me. I'm at a complete loss.
