I'm having a spot of trouble here... I realize that there are all these codecs out there, and I have the 3ivx going (good too, it's good to be able to see)... the only problem is that I can't figure which codec to use for audio. Any suggestions that would allow me to continue using Quicktime (so, please, no 'switch to vlc' comments) but do so with sound?

The 3ivx codec cannot play the audio tracks in most unconverted .avi files. In order to get audio, you will have to "flatten" your .avi files using DivX Doctor II, available on the 3ivx website. Rather than taking the time to process your files after you acquire them, I recommend that you download and install the DivX 5.2.1 codec or the DivX Fusion beta codec. If you leave the 3ivx codec installed, it will handle the video track while the DivX codec will handle the audio. If you uninstall the 3ivx codec, the DivX codec will handle everything.

so just the DivX 5.2.1 codec or DivX Fusion then? Nice, thanks.

The DivX 5.2.1 isn't giving me any audio still.... any more suggestions? Or is this just a Quicktime 7 issue?
Knowing nothing about the file, we cannot say. DivX 5.2 and DivX Fusion/DivX 6 will properly handle .avi files with DivX-encoded video and MP3-encoded audio. This represents the vast majority of .avi files on the Internet. You need to select the Window/Show Movie Info menu item to determine the audio and video codecs used for your file. Then locate and install those codecs.

no audio

I am also having problems converting avi or .mov files to divx. The image is always perfect but the audio always fails. I tried pairing the video files with different formats of audio (aiff, wav, mp3,..) but that doesn't affect the outcome. Everything seems to be pointing at the encoder (divx 5.2.1) , but refuse to think it is the culprit, or that I am doing something wrong. I am running Tiger, have qt 7 pro, final cut pro hd 5, also have shake, motion, special effects, .... Could any of these help me?

Or even better, is there a program that will convert avi/mov to wmv? (flip4mac aside: its evil...).

detailed info on the audio files
Aiff : 16-bit, 48 khz, 12.59mb, 767.34 kbits/sec
Wav: same as above
Mp3: mpeg layer 3, mono/stereo , 48 khz 23.36mb
