No sound out of headphones

I've had no problems with this before, but suddenly I do.
When I put my headphones in my iMac, the sound still comes out of the normal boxes.
Does this have to be repaired or can this be fixed by myself?

I assume you can select the headphone port with System Preferences->Sound pane, mini-tab 'Output' ?

"intern speakers" are selected, and I can't choose anything else..

it sounds like you have a damaged headphone jack. I would take your mac to the apple store to have it checked out.
