No sound through headphones

Hi
after an upgrade to Mac OS there is no sound on the headphones jack (connected to Harman Kardon speakers) was working perfect until the update
Any idea on a fix ?

Try doing a SMC reset.

sometime the preferences get stuck or just won't change to the selected output device

FWIW - I use "Sound Source" to quickly figure out why sound is not routed to the correct device - you can even create unique settings for each app - see screen shot - great time saver !
