no sound via M-AUDIO mobile pre USB???

suddenly it just stopped working and i don't know why.

i have updated the drivers, tried re-booting but nothing.

i'm only getting sound via the mac book with headphones.

i can play my bass through the M-AUDIO but not system sound.

i have tried to fix it in the system preferances/sound and audio/midi set up. still nothing. everything is connected.

i'm thinking this is possibly a USB issue?

i have a mac book pro 2.26GHz running OSX 10.6.4
