No sound when recording in Garage Band

I am using the M-Audio fast track recording system in Garageband and it was working just fine a few days ago, but when I tried to record again I couldnt hear anything, not even the metrenome. I tried to play it back and I still couldnt hear anything. I think I have the sound preferences right and I have tried everything. Any ideas?
