No sounds in some apps but works in others...

My first gen iPhone works sometimes but not others. When playing the iPod no sound comes from bottom of phone. Alarm works fine I hear it go off when it's set. No sound from ear speaker either. When you put the phone into speaker phone mode it worrks fine. The click when you type that's not there I've done a dull restore and reset of all settings and still no change. Anyone have any ideas what setting I messed up ??

Perhaps this is an obvious question, but have you tried turning the volume up?
