I've been wanting to have a transparent statusbar, but not a single theme worked in winterboard, despite no conflicts with other themes or anything.
I then heard about the editing in photoshop method, so I tried one of the wallpapers somebody had posted, but I still got a solid black statusbar.
So I though I should try changing the statusbar file itself. The internet pointed me to System/Library/CoreServices/SpringBoard.app and a file called FSO_BG.png.
That's the problem. It doesn't exist, and nor does anything similar. Help?
What's more confusing, is that it works in calls, and even on the lockscreen. Just not on the SpringBoard.

there is a theme to get rid of the status bar.

its called "transparent statusbar"

with ios4.x, the status bar images are wrapped in a ".artwork" file, and arent really accessible outside of theming through winterboard.

Transparent Statusbar for ios 4.0 works perfectly

You might need to be on 4.1. I was having issues theming the signal icon until I installed 4.1, since it allows 2x icons.

No no, I'm on 4.1

It mucks up the status bar of the Photos app. Since the photos app uses the same status bar as the springboard and lockscreen, you can't really change one without chaning the other.

I TRIED, but failed....

The transparent status bar 4.0 does nothing for me on the lockscreen, and I thought it'd be something to do with the statusbar image not existing. The bar is solid black, rather than a translucent black, and I don't know what's wrong :(

Same result here. I thought I'd try it out after seeing this thread and installed it on my 3GS on iOS4 but got nothing. Enabled, disabled, uninstalled, reinstalled...it just didn't work for me.

Can somebody please just clarify something? In the directory I specified in the first post, do any of you have the FSO_BG image I don't. If so, could somebody be kind enough to post it here so that I can see if that fixes the issues?
Thanks.

Read post #3 by strodda.

EDIT:

Nevermind, what I meant to say is that in iOS 4.1, the files are no longer called FSO_BG. You're now after "Translucent_Base.png"

Just looked for that file and i don't have it in the directory stated, sorry.

What do you mean by mucks up the photo app?

Can you post a screen cap of what it looks like with the transparent status enabled.

Here is what mine looks like.

Ok so I've done some more digging on the internet, and I can't change the statusbar without Winterboard. That's fine, but the winterboard theme isn't actually working :(
Any ideas?
I previously thought it might be a conflict with another theme, but it's not, because i have two themes enabled, one slide to unlock, and one keyboard click.

Does it work at all or not? You said it messes up the photo app. What exactly does it do?

look at the status bar, it shouldn't be like that, it ought to be black, but that's an aesthetics thing....some people like it like that.

I don't care if that bar is clear on the photo app. The WB theme is for a transparent status bar. If the same png is used on all apps, you can either have it clear or not. You can't choose when you want it clear.

My point is that the Photo App is the only app which suffers from this, all the other apps don't have this issue. So it is annoying.

If you like it that way, then you like it that way.
