No Terminal ANSI Colors

I was trying to check out the ANSI colors that were mentioned in another thread. My terminal window has no colored output for commands like ls.

I checked the terminal window preference and the "DIsplay ANSI colors" checkbox is checked and the "Declare terminal as:" is set to xterm-256color.

What am I missing?

Never mind. I just realized I had to use the -G flag to get ls to display listings in color.
