No text alert sound through headphones in silent mode.

With my iPhone 3GS I could hear text alerts through the headphones when the phone was switched to silent mode. With my iPhone 4 I can not hear the alert in silent mode. I hear when the phone rings but no text alert. If I switch out of silent mode I do hear all alert sounds through the speaker and headphones but this is not what I want. Is there a way to hear all sounds just through the headphones?

I'm annoyed by this too. There's no reason for the msg to be silent with headphones when ringing works.

Is there a Cydia workaround for this? I'm tired of missing important messages just because I'm not glued to the iPhone screen all day. I've got my headphones on; why doesn't it play an alert when a next text comes in (like it does for calls)???
