I'm sad to say that this is the one thing I miss about my BlackBerry...

When I have my 4S connected to my '12 Elantra's bluetooth, all text tones are silent. It still vibrates, but no noises.

When receiving a call, it rings through the car speakers, but nothing for texts or emails. Is there a way to change this?

There is not a way to change this, as I have looked into it in the past.

What happens is when your bluetooth pairs with your car all the phone's audio is sent via bluetooth, even system notifications. Even when you're not listening to the bluetooth source and listening to say FM radio that connection is still active, so all audio is sent to the bluetooth receiver.

I have sent Apple feedback saying it would be nice to have the option to send system notifications via bluetooth and to the phone's speaker but that was years ago and never acted on. Perhaps you could send the same feedback.
