I was comparing it to the dell xps 13" which is supposedly really good price/perf and has great build quality. However, the dell xps 13" is on sale for $2549 and the 13" non touch bar with similar specs can be had for $2650 with student discount (16gb ram/512gb SSD).
In the end i'm paying a $100 premium for macOS and way better build quality/track pad.

P.s The cpu is slightly faster than the 2015 base 13" MBP, which means its definitely capable for less power hungry users like me, but its a huge upgrade from the rMB cpu.

Is an option I am also considering, dropping my 2015 rMB and replacing it with the base 13" MBP. I also like the single fan as the 15W chip runs cooler than the 28 CPU. That said I still want to replace my 15" rMBP and it all adds up...

Apple should really have upped the RAM to 16G on the 512 high-tier 13" would really make it more attractive, well to me at least..
