Wow, so now that the site is back up, there's not going to be a SIM free 5S for sale.... only the T-Mobile unlocked version. Guess AT&T and Apple are still up to their behind the curtain trick deals again.

The 5C is available in 16\32 GB unlocked for ATT. Lame.

Sucks

----------

Here is what Apple posts on their web site:

If you buy iPhone for T-Mobile, it will arrive with a nano-SIM card already installed that you can activate by visiting an Apple Retail Store or a T-Mobile store or by calling T-Mobile. When you travel internationally, you can use a nano-SIM card for iPhone 5s from a local GSM carrier. The unlocked iPhone 5s model is A1533.

According to Apple site, the 5C model A1532 supports all US LTE bands. So in theory if you buy the unlocked version, it should work with all networks. Never mind, I read lower down, it will depend on carrier.

Too bad Apple doesn't make the iPhone 5S unlocked version support the bands the rest of the world uses. For me (I travel globally every week) it sucks being trapped on 3G whenever I leave the continent. Mehh.

AT&T users can just unlock theirs for $2 on swiftunlocks no big deal.

My guess is that 1 year stale price will skyrocket with the 5S IMEIs.

The unlocked US version supports:

1 (2100 MHz)
2 (1900 MHz)
3 (1800 MHz)
4 (AWS)
5 (850 MHz)
8 (900 MHz)
13 (700c MHz)
17 (700b MHz)
19 (800 MHz)
20 (800 DD)
25 (1900 MHz)

That looks like it covers the same LTE bands as France, Germany and UK.

Of course that doesn't means carriers like AT&T or Verizon will allow you to bring this device to their network, especially Verizon which is CDMA.

I'm pretty sure AT&T will allow it on their network. Probably not Verizon, but maybe LTE data only?

Isn't this the case every year when the new model is first launched? The fully unlocked version doesn't come out until the initial rush is satisfied a month or two later.

**Sigh**

The SIM free IS unlocked. The SIM free and T-Mobile version are the same model.

So there won't be an unlocked version for Verizon?

The Verizon iPhone is already unlocked. You can insert any SIM in it and take it onto any GSM network.

Stop making things up. You can buy an unlocked 5S and use it on AT&T without any problems.

I have to say, that is an impressive list. The only European band that seems to be missing is 7 (2600Mhz). Any idea how widespread that is or will be in the near future?

I meant to say, can you buy a iphone 5s for verizon iphone unlocked? Will they sell it that way or are they requiring a contrac.t My understanding is that verizon will give you the option to preorder without a contract at full price.

Actually, this is the first year they have sold unlocked models right at launch. I'm really not sure what the original poster is referring too.
