I'll try and make this quick and painless...I'm so tired and fraught with frustration as it is...
To sum up:
1. PPC G5 can't boot Leopard on 1 HDD (internal)
2. Will boot into Tiger on another (internal)
3. In Tiger, I run Disk utility to check Leo and repair permissions, get error:
"Disk Utility stopped verifying permissions on Leopard because the following error was encountered: No valid packages"
4. Read various forums online, learn that about replacing the file com apple.pkg.BaseSystem.bom (located in HD/Library/Receipts/Boms) with a copy from a friend using the same OS (10.5.6)
(BTW - It's mentioned not to ever change these files otherwise you will be in my boat - however I didn't initiate this by deleting or moving.)
5. No luck and no go. Same result.
6. To top it off...
today is my birthday....
Happy frickin birthday.
Please help.
