I have a Hong Kong bought 3GS which was happily showing me the international version of Google Maps, unlike the China bought iPhones that display maps of China only in Chinese and the rest of the world bilingual. Now after the update to iOS 6, Apple Maps of the whole world show up only as bitmap tiles and they are bilingual: English + Chinese, not just for China, but everywhere in the world!

I can't figure out a way how to get rid of them and get the international version. I've tried erasing all setting & data and activating the iPhone with my European SIM card, but the bitmap bilingual maps from Autonavi simply stick no matter what I do.

I really wanted to try the vector based maps and what I got is even worse than I had before and no apparent way to change that, grrrr!
