My Mackbook Pro Lights up on the front button, disk spools up, but no screen or start up tone.
Can a bad graphics chip cause this all these problems? I have a 8600M GT graphics chip.

The 8600GT has been know for 3-4 years to be a ticking time bomb. A class action suit was won against nVidia for it. Computers from Apple, Dell and Lenovo with the graphics chip WILL fail, it's a question of when, not of if.

Apple will warranty your computer 4 years from the date of purchase and give you a whole new logic board, free of charge. A friend of mine used to work in an Apple store where the internal policy was : warranteed forever. Give the Apple Store a try.
