no video playback to external device FCP 6.0.3

Hello. I have read all the posts about not seeing video playback on my external device (TwinPact 100/FW) and tried everything : trashing preferences, choosing All Frames, Fit Window canvas command, etc. . I can see the current frame on my external monitor so I know the connection is good. But the image does not scroll/update when I play back from the timeline - it only updates on the external monitor when I stop playback. rendered or non-rendered... no difference. and all AV settings are correct.
Any suggestions? 10.5.3, with FCP 6.0.3
