No way to change blinking cursor?

Not the mouse pointer, but the cursor when writing text. You can make the mouse pointer nice and huge but that thin blinking cursor is not adjustable? I find this particularly annoying if I'm working in Word For Mac. I lose the cursor all the time especially with non white backgrounds. (Which is like all the time for me).
