New MB here (first time mac user as well), i have no whine, no heat issues...BUT, on occasion my macbook won't shutdown in a timely manner. The first time this happened I shut it down manually by pressing down the power button. The second time i waited, maybe 2 minutes, tapped the power button, and maybe 5 seconds later it shut down. This only seems to happen when i have the computer on for a while.

My other issue is with my external speakers. I have some altec 5.1 speakers that work perfectly with my PC....but the volume is probably half as loud when connected to my MB. Maybe the speakers are not mac compatible???

I'm more worried about the shutting down issue...any ideas??

Does the computer get stuck at the logging out phase of shut down? Do you close all your apps before you shut down and if so, do you make sure the app is fully closed before pressing the power button? I say this because I find that sometimes if my Mac is quitting an app and I press the power button, it ignores me.

As for the volume, I don't think it's a Mac/PC incompatibility issue. I know it's obvious, but have you played around with the volume controls on the MacBook? :)
