New mac user here. I just got my blackbook a few days ago.

My problem right now is, when i connect my macbook to my hp external monitor wake the computer up in closed lid mode, my internet connection is lost, and it doesn't come back unless i restart my computer.

I'm using the new airport express.

Please, how can i make it so i can connect my external monitor, use it in closed lid mode, and keep my internet connection

thanks a lot!

sorry to bump this, but ive searched forums, and a few people have had the same problems and nobody will give an answer...does NOBODY have an answer to this situation?

Another question... have you tried with a different monitor? Or moved your computer farther away from the monitor?

My first suspicion would be that the monitor you want to use is putting out some sort of interference that's impeding the wireless signal.

That's what I was thinking. It not that the lid is closed, it's that it's just too far away or the monitor it interfering. That's why I want to see if it works with the lid up.

actually through further investigation, it isn't the monitor at all.

Whenever I wake my MacBook from sleep at all Internet ceases to work

The computer SAYS I have wifi service and says its connected, but safari, firefox, and iChat will not connect.

In order to get these programs to connect to the Internet I need to reset my computer.

Anybody have any ideas?

Thanks.

Is your wireless network on your preferred network list? Go to System Preferences and then to Network. Click on Airport and then Configure. By Default, Join: "Preferred Network" and add your home wireless network to the list by clicking on the "+" symbol and then click on your wireless network.

See if that works.

This is a common problem with all Mac laptops. it is a bug. The laptops are set to turn off the monitor and airport when the lid is closed, puting it to sleep. When you wake it up with an external monitor it turns the monitor off but the airport wont work. You can set your laptop to wake to bluetooth devices and then it will wake completely when a bluetooth mouse or keyboard is in range. This would enable you to close the lid and wake it and still use the airport normally. Otherwise, just wait until Apple fixes the bug and install the update. Sorry :(

My MBA does the same thing. When connected to an external monitor my wifi signal seems to be erratic to say the best and an utter balls generally.

MacBook+ext. monitor=no wireless

I hook up my macbook to my vizio flatscreen via HDMI cable and the wireless internet connection drops out. I disconnect and wireless is back on again. It may be a bug or a conflict with some other program. Any suggestions on how to root out the problem?

I had the same problem. Solved it by choosing a different wifi channel. It has to do with interference.. hope it will work.

Hi, I'm going to bump this and hope for a reply before starting a new thread on the subject.

i just got a new Samsung monitor (thanks to advice from those in this forum) and it's spiffy with my 2007 black macbook.

But I'm having the same issues as the person who started this thread. I'm using the new external monitor as my sole screen with Mac bluetooth keyboard/mouse and putting the Macbook off to the side, asleep.

I'd like to close the laptop, but when I do the internet connection goes away. Instead, I have to leave it open, even though the screen is dark and the computer on idle.

My internet connection is wireless from a Time Capsule router located in another part of the house, though I'm bolstering it with an Airport Express in the same room as the laptop/monitor. I guess the interference is coming from the Samsung, and I need to keep the laptop open for the antenna.

However, I saw that someone said to change the channel on the router. Is that possible with a Time Capsule/Airport router? Would someone mind briefly explaining how to do it? I'm not sure how to go in and tweak things on the advanced settings.

Thanks so much for any help.
