So I've been having this issue with my Macbook Pro 2011 where sometimes, I get an error saying there's no WiFi hardware installed. What typically happens is that I'm using my laptop, and then suddenly it just drops all internet connectivity. If I go to the network icon on the toolbar, it shows that WiFi is on, but it doesn't list any network connections any more, nor does it attempt to look for any.
If I restart my computer, it usually ends up saying no WiFi hardware installed and gives me nothing. Resetting the SMC sometimes helps, but the issue has been persistent. The last time I reset the SMC, I got about an hour out of it before it randomly dropped. And again, it was random when it dropped (though it seems to never drop in the middle of a game of Hearthstone).
The issue first happened on Yosemite for me, before then I didn't have a single problem with it.
I've tried a lot of fixes for it but I'm not exactly sure what's wrong with it. Other fixes I've tried include trashing the WiFi preferences, reformatting it, changing the WiFi order, and disabling bluetooth.
Anyway, I'm hoping someone here has some suggestions on things I can try to fix the issue.
PS. I had my Macbook repaired earlier this year for known issues related to GPU crashes on the discrete card, and the WiFi was much better immediately after, but eventually ran into the same problems I had been having.
