I find this highly unusual of Apple to offer only two storage options and at that there is a $150 difference between the two.

I feel like they are squeezing every dime they can and offering very limited options. One would think they would offer these two options at the same $100 increase as before. Its very strategic because most people could not survive on 64gb.

I expected this one on the X but was surprised to see it on the 8's

They know how many units of each storage size they sell and no doubt figure this is the best way to make money from us. It's pretty clear that they have optimized the storage money train imho.

"Most people could not survive.." ? I disagree.

In my opinion, the people that frequent this forum are the exception. I don't think everyone is caught up in storing everything imaginable on their top of the line iPhone. I think a lot of people get by just fine with a lot less storage, especially when cloud storage is so widely available.

There is nothing unusual about it.

They've been using the storage tiers to milk people for upgrades on both the Mac/iOS forever. It is getting more extreme though..

Between the:

- selling 3rd gen apple watch along a FIRST GEN instead of SECOND GEN apple watch
- increasing apple watch price
- increasing iphone price
- introducing a $1000 iphone
- introducing a 128gb phone last year, then removing it and replacing it with a 256gb version for $150 more instead of $100 more

it's clear that they still don't give even the slightest crap about any of their customers, their fan base is high enough to where they just simply don't need to care at all anymore. they'll sell hundreds of millions no matter what they do.

i'm actually surprised that they went away from 32GB base storage already.
64GB is more than enough for 90% of people.
