Noise from 4S earpiece

Is it normal to hear a sound from the iPhone earpiece? When I put the phone next to my ear I can hear this humming sound it sounds like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1KaOrSuWZeM
but softer. It makes the sound when the phone is on and on standby. I am on ATT with 4-5 bars in my house.
