Noisy audio

Hi,

I've had my black MacBook for about 2 weeks (upgrading from a first gen core duo iMac + MacBook), and I have noisy audio (only on the line out, using iPod shuffle headphones). Quite often it sounds like it's raining due to the noise, other times it sounds like beeping, other times it is a high pitched whine. I am sure it's not the software running, but it is getting very annoying. Is this common, or should I contact Apple?
