Hi,

I received my MBP 16" last week and love most of it. I have noticed though that the delete and enter key (UK style) is very clicky and loud. I tried one in store and the enter key didn't sound the same.

Do you think it's worth swapping out for new one or is this how some are? Anyone with a UK keyboard layout would love to hear from you. Thanks.

So you think if the one in store is quiet and not like mine I should keep mine anyway? Just seems that it might be mine with the defect?

IIRC, there was a similar thread here. The "big keys" sounded louder to those people, too, probably cause of the different stability mechanism for those type of keys.

Is this how it is on all of them then? The one in store was super quiet and not the same as mine at all.

I don't think that's worth swapping it our for. If everything else works well I just wouldn't bother. What if you exchange it and get a lemon in some other way?

Probably in-store item was already clicked many times by visitors, so it completed it’s running-in. And stores used to be more loud places rather than homes.

Perhaps. But the one I see at BestBuy looks and feels so much softer than the one I have returned and the ones I see at Apple Store. Go figure...

I wouldn't worry about it, get Apple Care + if you haven't already and just enjoy the laptop. If you exchange it, you'll never get the perfect laptop because something else is liable to be off.

Why ask others to answer a question only you can answer for yourself? If it's worth it to you, replace it. Buy the display one in the store.

What do you mean why ask others? I wanted to know if anyone else had this problem and from what I can tell some people are saying some are not like this. So that’s made me think that mine isn’t how it should be.

FWIW I did notice a difference in keyboards between two display models when I was checking them out the other day. I thought that was strange, but I paid absolutely no mind to it. I am honestly so happy with the keyboard on my machine after nearly 4 years of the dreaded butterfly keyboard on the 2016 that I can't find myself caring about any small differences in production.

So yeah, there does seem to be some variation. Gonna be up to you whether it's worth exchanging or not. Just remember, there are much more serious issues going around with the 16" MBP that you could get hit with in your next machine. It's for this reason alone I am leaning towards not doing the exchange lottery, even though I am dealing with a LCD uniformity issue that bothers me.

You said you already found one that wasn't that way, so you already know that much. What does "how it should be" have to do with it? It's completely up to you whether it's worth it to replace it.

Jesus. Calm down mate. This is a forum to discuss this kind of stuff no? If you’re that frustrated then don’t bother replying here.

So I shouldn’t be able to a perfect laptop for 3k?

Sure, it's your time and money. All I’m saying is you’re more likely to exchange it for another new one, which may have worse sounding keys, coil whine, or maybe unaligned hinges... etc. Its been my experience over the last 2 decades working in IT that no perfect laptop exist. They are assembled by humans on a production line making pennies. I just picked up the i9 16” this week and it has coil whine but I’m not exchanging it. Mine doesn’t have any speaker pop (that I’ve noticed), my keyboard is amazing, it’s a solid unit, and so I can live with some coil whine knowing a majority of them have some form of it.

Personally I would not exchange it just because a few keys sound louder, with the possibility your new one has LCD backlighting deformity, or worse sounding keys etc.

That escalated quickly! Someone is frustrated, evidently. Just buy the one you tried out that sounds the way like and your problem is solved.
