Nomad today announced the launch of its latest Apple Watch accessory, the Rocky Point Band. The Rocky Point Band was created with the Apple Watch Ultra in mind, and it has a rugged look that matches well with Apple's watch for outdoor enthusiasts.

According to Nomad, the Rocky Point Band is made from "ultra-touch, compression-molded FKM" fluoroelastomer rubber, and it is equipped with grade 2 lightweight titanium hardware to match the Apple Watch Ultra. The company used metal injection molding titanium to create the components for the band.

The design includes ventilation grooves for breathability, and it is entirely waterproof. While designed for the Apple Watch Ultra and Ultra 2, it is also compatible with all Apple Watch models.

Nomad is offering the Rocky Point Band in Storm, Sol, and Atlantic shades, and it can be purchased from the Nomad website for $80.

I dig this, it looks really good. Of course there are thousands of cheapo bands on Amazon and Temu etc., but I'm glad to see some companies competing in the premium end of the market, with more refined design & quality materials.

Typically case manufacturers receive the dimensions in advance of a product launch. So this band launch timing actually reaffirms the possibility of the AW Ultra 3 announcement, and the fact it will be compatible with the current bands.
It was a joke...

meh, looks unnecessarily chunky and does not improve on the Ocean band that Apple already offers. I guess it's a bit cheaper, but not enough to matter, or to justify that chunky hardware.

I don't mind the look. But the previous Nomad band could be bought off of Aliexpress for like $2. So I expect the use of Titanium is trying to prevent copies from happening again. But I bet they will anyway.

Nomad bands are Way to skinny for apple watch ultra, I've got one of their so called apple watch ultra specific bands, and it looks like my watch skipped leg day at the gym, ban still in the box, never used it. Their bands have exactly the same width as the normal apple watch, so before you buy, go to an apple store and fit one of the apple watch sports bands on your apple watch ultra and see how ridiculous it looks. Waste of money!

One thing that it improves upon versus the Ocean is fit for large wrists. The Ocean only fits up to 200mm (e.g., not good for us guys with > 8 inch wrists, while this band fits from 175mm to 225mm.

Hmm... Good to know. I could swear Apple had a large Ocean band... But I looked and it seems it's just the one size. I wear the Ocean on my Ultra and only have 2 notches to spare. On my previous Apple Watches, I've worn the sport loop bands and they have been fine, I guess I just never looked to see if there were larger sizes. According to the listed measurements, I should be close to needing a larger band, but they've been fine. Did not like the silicone bands that include the S/M, and M/L sizes... Have to use the M/L band, but just didn't like the smooth/flat of them as they don't breathe well. Nike band is probably better with the additional holes.

Looks like a rip of the Casio G-shock bands, which is perfect for the demo and will probably sell well I'd guess. But I look forward to the $12 ripoffs of this, no way is it worth that much.

Nomad makes good quality product. My wife had a $12 knockoff band that is just like sports band. You can tell the difference in quality and the fact it has discolored. Not saying nomad isn’t operating on high margins but the quality is there.

Ps. Apple doesn’t over price anything do they?

I'd love to pay Nomad premium price for this, because I like the look at lot. That's said the pin side is 95mm long which mean the buckle will sit right in the middle of my wrist, which mean the titanium hardware (and especially the metal watch strap keeper) will not be laptop friendly at all.
I have a metal band which I can't use when I work on laptop and it's fine, it's a band for the weekend. I would consider this band as a daily "do-it-all" so sadly it's a deal breaker for me.
Also overall, 95mm on the pin side is still a bit too short for me. 100 or 105mm is a better bit and keep the well centered on my wrist instead of having drift away from me

According to Nomad, the Rocky Point Band is made from "ultra-touch, compression-molded FKM" fluoroelastomer rubber,

I'm tempted to pick one up just to reward them for not calling it "vegan spider silk" or some such.

But they're calling it rubber.

Rubber is a natural product.

Fluoroelastomer is not and obviously so. You don't often hear people say "take a left at the fluoroelastomer tree".

Nomad doesn't lead with rubber-- they call it FKM (Fluorine Kautschuk Material, obviously not taken from the hides of Fluorine Kautshucks) everywhere in the marketing material except in the faq where they clearly refer to it as "a high-performance fluoroelastomer" (a synthetic rubber).

I picked up a sandmarc titanium band and love it as a compliment to the basic Apple bands.
