I work at a community college as an "instructional assistant" and one of my duties is to try to maintain the iMacs as best as I can. I'm not an IT guy or anything.
I have noticed since the beginning of the semester the desktops in one computer lab becoming super cluttered, upon investigating I have learned that anytime anyone using the "student" account tries to drag an item to the trash it requests the admin password.
I've run the disk utility, and repaired permissions and it didn't work. I've tried it from both the student account, and the main admin account.
Earlier in the semester in a different lab, the students couldn't save files or anything, but that was because the students didn't have read/write permission for any of the folders on the hard drive. So I had to go from computer to computer changing that.
Any ideas on why this may be happening/how to correct it?
EDIT: Ok, so it turns out it was the same problem changing the permissions to read/write for the "Users/Student" folder. I didn't think it was the same problem, since in the first situation the users couldn't even save files. Still not sure why it happened though.
