Non-apple DVI to VGA on Apples Mini-DVI to DVI, Will it work?

all for a little over $1,387.29 Lots of new toys for Christmas!

I have a VGA only 17" LCD monitor that I want to use along with my macbook. At first I though about purchasing a mini-DVI to VGA adapter but I found that my brother had a DVI to VGA adapter that he doesn't need.

Can I attach this adapter to apple's Mini-DVI to DVI adapter?

I don't need DVI right now but maybe in the future it could come handy.

It most likely won't work.

The mini-DVI -> DVI adapter outputs a DVI-D signal, to use a DVI -> VGA adapter you'd need a DVI-I signal being output as the different signals use different configurations of the pins on the DVI plug and one won't plug into the other.

You should buy the adapter that will work with your monitor.

Thanks Chundles, I will just get the mini-DVI to VGA adapter to use with my LCD display.

BTW, has anyone used this Belkin router before?
