It's just a simple bit of hardware, and should work (no firmware or drivers are involved), so IMO, give it a shot. :)

If not, send it back on the complaint it doesn't work as advertised. ;)
 
i wish i had looked at a 3rd party solution when i bought my mini displayport to dvi... $30 for a dongle is just ridiculous
 
I have a mDP->DVI adapter from Monoprice that works just fine and it cost 1/3 of Apple's. So that's at least one 3rd party adapter that is OK.

All the 3d party units are likely from the same manufacturer, so if one worked, they all would, as it's really the same part. :D
 
I have a third party one as well. I haven't tried it with a DVI-VGA adapter, but it works fine for DVI-D at least.
