Does anyone think a non-camera iPhone is a reality? Upon graduation in May 2010, I will be starting my new job as a mechanical engineer. I currently have a Blackberry with a camera but will be in search for a new, non-camera smartphone. Seeing as I am not permitted to carry a camera phone into work, my phone choices are limited. I will probably end up with the new Blackberry Tour 2, which should be out in the next month or so. While I love my BB and the email functionality, I am also an Apple guy. The iPhone is tempting seeing how many applications are available for it. So to reiterate, does anyone think Apple will release a non-camera version of the iPhone?

My guess is no, seeing how it is more for entertainment/toy purposes, but one can hope :D

I wouldn't count on Apple releasing such an iPhone, but there are services that will remove the camera from the phone for you:

You can also do it yourself if you're enterprising and don't mind voiding your warranty:

I agree with the above post. A buddy of mine worked for a company that had DoD contracts, and they had to leave their phones in their cars, get a non-camera phone, or have the camera disabled from an outside company.

Sometimes having your camera removed or disabled is not enough and just having the shell of a camera phone is enough to need to leave your phone behind. Always check company policy.

I'm approximately 1 year late to replying to this thread...

But this site which does Non-camera iPhone 4's look rather promising:
Non-camera iPhone 4 - http://noncam.com

I smell loads of hope for people who are hoping to take their iPhone 4's into secure areas like military bases, camps, etc, now! ;)

There's many places online that you can send your iphone or any type of cellphone and have them remove your camera if you want.
You dont have to buy it like that.
Then you can save the part and have them put it back if you want to sell it down the road.

yes looks like they really forgotten about there is a front camera for iphone 4.

we did and removed the front camera successfully and replaced the front panel with something else.

You could download the apple provisioning profile application. Choose it so that it restricts and blocks access to the camera. email the profile to your iphone, and install it on your phone.

true.... hmm, wonder a way around it

why risk your job for trying to game the system

get a cheap GSM phone (craiglist $20) + SIM adapter = keep your job and your iPhone warranty

agreed, but even at that it might be hard to find the crapies GSM phone that works that doesnt have a camera, you would have to find a phone from the mid 1990's

If it was just for work I'd just pick up a cheap $20 phone like has been mentioned. Then go the security office with a punch and a hammer and show them the camera won't work anymore. It wouldn't be that bad.
