Serious question here.
If Apple had put a non-conductive coating on the antenna effectively stoping us from making direct contact with the metal, do you think this would of eliminated the problem?

Only 'flaw' I can see in that is the fact that Apple didn't, there must be a reason for that? Or maybe as many speculate (such as myself) they noticed too late into the build and couldn't change what they were going ahead with.
 
Makes sense since the phones stop losing signal once you put a case on it. I wonder if applying a protective film like a ZAGG or something would serve the same purpose you're mentioning.

I watched a YouTube video of someone demonstrating that the Zagg did not help with their signal strength issues...

It just dumbfounds me that they left two live antennas next to each other that can easily be bridged due to the conductive nature of our bodies, with nothing at all done to stop it.
 
Honestly if Apple were to replace the rim (antennas) with plastic and hide the antennas under the new plastic rim, I would be ok with that.

For something I use daily, I would have to chose function over looks.

This feature will be added in the Iphone 4S model.
