I'm getting to the point where the $3/200gb plan for backup will be a little tight if I start backing up everything, and don't really want to spend $10/month on iCloud since I need nowhere near 2TB.

From my macbook I normally just run B2 backups with rclone at .005/gb ($1 a month for 200gb).

However, I'm trying to come up with a better system for backing up photos from my phone.

Setup:
- 1TB macbook M1 pro
- 256gb iPhone, around 50% full
- Around 100gb of old photos not in iCloud or photo library (just in folders that I manually backed up on my macbook)

I'm trying to come up with a sane system to regularly backup photos from my phone -> another source, avoid duplicates, but not spend $10/month with iCloud.

I've looked into PhotoSync which could be an option, but debating how to improve this flow:
1. Backup from phone -> macbook. Issue here is I want to avoid duplicates. I've been using image import tool rather than Photos just because I usually don't want everythign
2. Backup from macbook->B2 for a cloud backup
3. Delete photos from iPhone to clear up space (this one is tricky because I like to keep some on my phone for viewing, but then if I backup again can end up with duplicates).

I suspect I'd be better served using the Photos app to backup everything and de-dupe, but what usually happens is that I have a lot of "junk" photos that I don't really want in there. Receipts, screenshots, quick photos of things for reminders.

Would love to here your more sane system for handling photos.
