non-metal thin cases

so after searching through various threads, I haven't been able to find a definitive answer. I'm aware of the reception and signal issues associated with metal cases but does the same hold true for polycarbonate or silicon? I assume that basically any contact with an iphone's antenna (especially with the iphone 4), including your hand affects it but please correct me if I'm wrong
