Hi Folks,

I am looking for a good app for annotating journal PDF articles. The main problem is that most apps seem to use Apple's PDF engine for saving files and the sizes increase like crazy.

For instance, when I save a journal PDF article in Preview, it typically increases the file size by 2x - 5x. This is a problem because it increases the size of my synced reference library. This happens regardless of whether I add any annotations (see attached screenshot for example).

Adobe Reader preserves the original file size perfectly, but the interface is awful and buggy (no scroll support in the comment pane, crashes while searching, etc.). I have tried a half dozen other PDF apps (e.g. Skim) and they all seem to use the same process that Preview uses to save files, which increases their size. Using Quartz filters within Preview to reduce file size is also not effective.

Thanks for any suggestions!
