ok i just got a seagate 250gb freeagent go harddrive and a vx revolution mouse and the hd needs 2 usb ports since its usb powered and the mouse needs a usb port for its receiver so i need a usb hub.

i got the portable drive to be portable so i want a usb hub that doesnt need a power source.

is it ok to run the harddrive on a hub that isnt powered? and if so, does anyone have a recomendation of one, preferably from best buy.

so how should i go about keeping that drive portable? anyone else have some input?

Does your drive use a USB Y-cable? If so, one of the connectors is used for power and the other for data. You could try to plug one connector into the hub and the other connector directly to the Mac. If it doesn't work, try swapping the connectors. Some drives that require two USB ports don't use a Y-cable but have a separate USB cable with a DC connector on the end. Then you can plug that cable directly to the Mac and the data USB cable to the hub.
